The donut vase, quirky as it is and with the little billy buttons trying to hold their own inside the funny little opening, they could easily be the oddest couple anywhere! They say you should stick to the ‘3’s’ theory in design and composition, this time 2 is enough, 3 was crowd.
Painted whilst visiting my daughter in Melbourne, her environment very different from mine. Modern apartment and a lot of white punctuated with colour accents, a world away from my patch and the little native plants in more than lovely donut vase seemed to be saying ‘get us outa here’. So I painted them into your world. In realty the textures and richness are quite in ‘relief’ of the canvas to make a striking original piece and a lovely reproduction on either cotton rag or canvas.
