Steeped in the mythology of Ancient Greece and Roman times as well as the Middle East it is seen in symbolism and artworks through history. I prefer the symbolism associated with Aphrodite and the Greek Goddess of fertility Hera. In ancient Rome, Greek newlywed women wore crowns woven from the pomegranate leaves and the juice used to cure infertility.
Either way you look they are bursts of passionate delight. The fruit and divinely red flowers bring a strong memory from a huge garden shrub in my first home and cottage garden.
