LETTER FROM LIZ

Jingi Walla, that’s the local ‘Welcome’ .

Pinch me I think I am dreaming again. Launching Liz Wilson Art Work brings to fruition my dream to live a more balanced life, pursue my passion for artistic expression and is a conduit to reaching my ‘Ikigai’. My life purpose, my bliss, my reason to greet each day with gratitude and live joyfully.

From my little patch of paradise, my art practice has become my constant companion. Playful, reliable and forgiving, day and night. As an Australian mixed media artist, I am captivated by colour and the natural world. Painting  predominantly in richly pigmented watercolours and acrylics. I create firstly to enjoy the escape it brings me, to forget what’s going on beyond the cacophony of birds singing.  Expressing at times intuitively and other times more thoughtfully, to bring about imagery that satisfies the eye, warms the heart and engenders joy, is my hope.

As a true Aquarian my style is somewhat eclectic and unpredictable, some say much like me. Through Liz Wilson Art I am tapping into my collaborative spirit, building an  artisan community, offering opportunity for guest artists to join me here.

Nimbin, NSW 2480

My home studio is located at the foot of the rainforest, near the iconic village of Nimbin, New South Wales where I am surrounded by the awe inspiring natural world. When I step into our rainbow village, I am met with a kaleidoscope of colourful heritage ‘muraled’ buildings and a confetti of artistically motivated, caring people, shining light on my world. A beautiful community and world heritage location known for its unique ecosystem, sustainable lifestyles, communal living, hippies, hemp culture, activists and is a place that inspires me to create work with wide appeal.

Whether you are a tourist wanting to take a little of Australia home, a homeowner looking to bring the wonderment of nature inside or a corporation looking to support their employees in creating a bright and happy atmosphere – Liz Wilson Art is here for you.

For the Original Custodians, Nimbin has always been a sacred place of learning and transformation.

The valley where the village now lies was the gathering place of many, with the Nimbin Rocks to the south for men’s business and places to the north and east for women’s business. The Rocks are monolithic fragments from the Wollumbin Mount Warning Volcano that erupted approximately 20 million years ago and are of great cultural significance to the traditional owners of the Bundjalung nation. These significant landmarks are regarded as sacred sites of initiation and higher learning by the Original people. Access is restricted to the public, but you can check out the Rocks from the viewing area 2kms south of the village.

Nimbin and its surrounding ranges are rich with stories reaching back to the Dreamtime, and is known as the resting place of Warrajum, the rainbow serpent, and a place of healing and initiation.

The word Nimbin comes from the legend of the Nimbinjee people who are also the totem of the local Wia-bal tribe. The ancient sleeping warrior of the Nightcap Range still lies in watch over the village, like the famous Nimbin Rocks, which are now under the custodianship of the Bundjalung people.

Acknowledgement
of COUNTRY

Liz Wilson Art Work acknowledges the traditional people as custodians and knowledge holders of the traditional lands we travel, create, and learn on, throughout the continent that has been colonially known as Australia.

We pay deepest respects to all Custodians of Country, of whom these lands belong. Especially the land and people of Gamilaraay where Liz was born, and Wiradjuri where Liz raised her children and the local Widgabul Wia-bul people of Bundjalung Nation, where Liz now lives and paints.

Liz Wilson Art Work acknowledges Aboriginal people as the first artists and storytellers on this continent and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
